Does Zerodha Have Paper Trading?

The short answer, what Zerodha does offer for practice, and where it stops.

Not as a paper-trading account. Zerodha's own support page says it does not offer demo accounts for paper trading. It points people to a demo version of Kite that runs on dummy data instead. Separately, Streak, the strategy platform you can log into with your Kite account, has a virtual mode for testing automated strategies.

Neither is a place to practise placing your own options trades against live prices. If that is what you are after, The Trade Pilot is built for it: a free simulator for Indian index options, with virtual money and no demat account.

What Zerodha gives you for practice

Three things come up when people ask this question, and they are easy to mix up:

  • Kite demo: a demo version of the Kite trading platform on dummy data, useful for getting to know the screens before you open an account.
  • Streak: Zerodha's partner platform for building and testing rule-based strategies. Its virtual mode runs a strategy without placing real orders.
  • Zerodha Varsity: free written lessons on markets and options. It teaches the theory but is not a place to place trades.

Where that falls short for options practice

Learning options means placing trades yourself and watching them move with real prices: picking a strike, sizing a position, setting a stop-loss, and seeing how premium, time decay and volatility change your result. Dummy data does not behave like a market, and a strategy tester answers a different question (does this rule work?) from the one a beginner has (can I manage a trade?). That is the gap a dedicated simulator fills.

Practising options before you trade on Zerodha

The Trade Pilot is a simulator for Indian index options:

  • Place virtual NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and SENSEX options trades on live NSE/BSE data
  • A full options chain with OI, IV and the Greeks
  • Practise calls, puts, spreads, stop-losses and position sizing
  • An AI coach that explains why each trade won or lost
  • No KYC, no demat account, no real money
